Quantum Body
or how to change your body and your life, and keep the change
the quantum body programme
for people who want to make a change ...
... and keep the change!
What the Ħεςκ is quantum body?
If you want to loose a few pounds so you look good in a swimsuit this summer, and to hell with it in the autumn, then quantum body isn't for you.
If you are fed up with dieting, and still can't face yourself in the mirror (or even see the scales), then quantum body might be, so read on. Here's the briefest introduction I've managed so far:
During 2009 I changed my body:
- I lost 100lbs in weight (down from 23.5 stone to 16 stone)
- I cured my type II diabetes (taken no medications since July, and I monitor my blood sugar and it's normal)
- Reduced my blood pressure from 180/110 to around 135/90.
- Got my cholesterol down to "better than normal" (my GP's words)
- Went from "I can't walk a mile because I'm too heavy, and also I have diabetic neuropathy of my feet" to, last weekend (Jan 22-24, 2010), I walked 47.1 miles in three days (I did the entire Test Way).
What I discovered during this time is that weight loss and weight maintenance are really difficult unless you have all of the pieces of the jigsaw in place. In this jigsaw there are the three phases of weight loss and the five aspects of weight loss and maintenance.
The Three Phases
- Weight loss: getting to your goal weight.
- Re-feeding: the transition from diet to your new normal life
- Weight maintenance: making your new normal life a lifelong habit that requires no effort or thought; it just happens.
Phase one (weight loss) can take days, weeks, months or years, depending on how overweight you are, and how quickly (or otherwise) you want to do it. I lost my 100lbs between June 10th and October 30th 2009.
Phase two (transition) probably only needs a week to 10 days.
Phase three is the rest of your life! But/and it may take two or three years before you can say that the habit has become ingrained.
The Five Aspects
This is the bit that might take you by surprise. All I can say is: please bear with me, keep an open mind, ask yourself "how might this be so", and have a vigorous discussion with me, before you dismiss me as a crazy crank! I've put a lot of research, thought and experiment into this!
- Physical (food and exercise)
- Psychological (what you are thinking, and how to control it)
- Emotional (what you are feeling, and how to control it)
- Social (getting the skilled support of people going through the same thing as you), as well as dealing with all those skinny people who just think we're fat slobs who lack self-discipline (what do they know?!)
- Spiritual. If you already have a spiritual or religious aspect to your life, this bit won't be a problem for you. If you don't; please just bear with me! This isn't a religion, it isn't a cult, but I hope to be able to show you that there may just be something out there that might help! I was discussing this with a sceptical male friend recently, and he said that whenever he's confronted with a form to fill out that has a box marked "religion" he puts in "Jedi Knight". Apparently, so many people have done this that "Jedi" is now recognised as the fourth-largest religion in the UK (click for details). So, "May the Force be with you"! I thought of this as a bit of a joke until I read details of Jedism; now I'm beginning to wonder if I might not adopt it myself! Here's what caught my attention: "The light Jedi believe it is a trait to be compassionate and care about improving and helping the lives of others, while dark Jedi focus exclusively on self improvement and interest." Well, let's not get into Star Wars, but "to be compassionate and care about improving and helping the lives of others" seems like a jolly good thing, to me!
Quantum Body is, therefore, my project to make sure I loose the rest of my weight, and keep it off, and remain healthy. One of the biggest of the missing pieces in my jigsaw, is "skilled fellowship". As I am somewhat of an expert in this, but can't, by definition do it by myself, I need to find a bunch of people to join me. So, if you’ll agree to help me with all your knowledge, skills, attitude and experience, I’ll agree the same with you. Do we have a bargain?
I was recently reading a fabulous book ("How to Stop Worrying and Start Living") by a wonderful American called Dale Carnegie. In the introduction to his book, he said:
"Science," said the French philosopher Valery, "is a collection of successful recipes." That is what this book is, a collection of successful and time-tested recipes to rid our lives of worry. However, let me warn you: you won't find anything new in it, but you will find much that is not generally applied. And when it comes to that, you and I don't need to be told anything new. We already know enough to lead perfect lives. ... Our trouble is not ignorance, but inaction. The purpose of this book is to restate, illustrate, streamline, air-condition, and glorify a lot of ancient and basic truths - and kick you in the shins and make you do something about applying them.
So that's what Quantum Body is: a collection of successful recipes. Its purpose is to restate, illustrate, streamline, air-condition, and glorify a lot of ancient and basic truths about weight loss and weight maintenance - and kick you up the bum and make you do something, and to encourage you to kick me up the bum, and make sure that I do it, too!
That's Quantum Body in as small a nutsell as I can manage right now!
What will we offer?
Not just blue-sky thinking
Support that is real
hot stuff
